If you’re planning a skincare product, the first question is usually cost. The honest answer is that it depends on a few decisions you make early. Here’s how pricing works at Pure Earth Labs, what moves it up or down, and what to have ready before you ask for a quote.
Minimums and budget
Our minimum order is 5,000 units per SKU. What a product costs at that quantity depends mostly on the factors below. OTC and dietary products are quoted separately.
What moves the price
Formula path. Private label uses one of our catalog formulas and is the fastest, lowest-cost route. Semi-custom adjusts a catalog base, such as its scent, color or minor ingredients. Fully custom formulation is built from scratch and takes the most development time.
Ingredients. Specialty actives, certified ingredients and rare botanicals can change the cost per unit a lot.
Packaging. Components like airless pumps, glass, droppers and custom printing can cost as much as what goes inside them.
Quantity. Larger runs spread setup and development costs across more units, so each unit costs less.
Testing. The stability and safety testing your product and market require adds time and cost before launch.
How long it takes
Development time depends on how many sample rounds you need. Once your formula is approved, our standard production lead time is 4 to 5 weeks. Filling can’t start until your packaging arrives, so order components early.
Already have a formula?
If you own a formula and want to move production, we handle tech transfers. We gather your formula information, our in-house chemists test and approve it, and then we finalize it and move it into production.
